One of my new passions is the wonderful world of BJD or ABJD as they are also known. They are Ball Jointed Dolls made mainly in Korea, Japan, or China and are primarily cast in resin. These amazing creations can range in size from tiny 10cm to towering 70cm and are usually supplied blank to the buyer so they can be painted, dressed, wigged to suit.
I been lucky enough to get to know some lovely people in this hobby, including Ashley at GardenofDolls.com who has also collaborated with chinese BJD manufacturer Bobobie to develop her own range of resin dolls.
PpoPpo ('kiss' in korean) was the first of these dolls. She was designed to fit into Blythe clothing making it much easier for owners to clothe her.
As I had by now become accustomed to painting these pictures I asked Ashley if she minded me doing so and then set to work once I saw the first sculpt photos.
This little girl however I found more challenging and it took many attempts to get her to a finished stage. I'm not as pleased with her as I was with my previous ones but at the end of the day Ashley liked the picture and that was all that mattered.
I have also included the sculpt picture that inspired me and a picture of one of the actual dolls.
The sculpt pictures, doll pictures, sketches, and these paintings are all shown with the full permission of the doll creators in question and Dennis of the Bobobie BJD company.
I absolutly am in love with these dolls. not to mention your creativity with the painting. where does she buy her dolls from? is there a site i can buy them off of? ive been researching them a bit, although i havent found any to buy blank.
they are usually the finished products.
Hi hun,
These cuties are designed by Ashley at GardenofDolls.com and made for her by Bobobie so they will only really be available through the GardenofDolls website, her eBay shop, etc.
I think so far they actually come with a basic face up but it doesn't do any harm to perhaps ask if she could get one without for you.
